As cadets progress in skill, they may be selected to participate in:
Squadron Marksmanship Days
Zone, Provincial, and National Cadet Marksmanship Competitions
Summer Training
Cadets who show skill and interest in marksmanship may be selected for specialized summer courses focused on precision shooting and instructional techniques.
Available Courses:
Introduction to Marksmanship Course (2 Weeks)
Air Rifle Marksmanship Instructor Course (4 Weeks)
Both courses are offered at Cadet Training Centers (CTCs) and include hands-on range time, coaching, and team-building.
The 714 Squadron Marksmanship Program offers cadets the opportunity to learn and develop safe handling, responsibility, and accuracy with the Daisy 853C air rifle, a low-velocity, single-pump, air-powered rifle used across the Cadet Program.
Proper handling and operation of the air rifle
Firearms safety and range procedures
Marksmanship fundamentals (stance, breathing, sight alignment, and trigger control)
How to shoot from the prone, kneeling, and standing positions
Scoring and competition formats
All training is supervised by qualified Cadet and Adult Range Safety Officers (RSOs) who ensure safety protocols are always followed. Cadets are required to pass a safety test before participating on the range.
Cadets can earn Marksmanship Qualification Badges based on their shooting scores:
Marksman
First Class Marksman
Expert Marksman
Distinguished Marksman
These badges can be proudly worn on the cadet uniform.
Any cadet at 714 Squadron can participate in the marksmanship program, regardless of prior experience. Training usually happens during optional training nights or on scheduled weekend practices.
