Drill and Ceremonial is a core part of the Air Cadet Program and plays a key role in teaching discipline, confidence, teamwork, and attention to detail. At 714 Squadron, D&C is practiced regularly and forms the foundation of many of our formal activities.
Drill is the coordinated movement of a group in response to commands. It includes:
Standing at attention and at ease
Marching and halting in formation
Saluting and turning on the march
Rifle drill (for advanced cadets and ceremonial teams)
Drill is taught progressively so cadets can master the basics and advance to more complex routines.
Drill helps cadets:
Develop discipline and self-control
Strengthen focus and listening skills
Perform confidently during parades and inspections
Represent the squadron with pride and professionalism
These events showcase cadet skills and allow families and community members to witness their progress and dedication.
Cadets with strong drill skills and a keen interest in precision may be invited to join the 714 Squadron Drill Team. The team may:
Perform advanced drill routines
Compete in zone and regional drill competitions
Represent the squadron at special events
Being part of the drill team promotes leadership, pride, and camaraderie.
Throughout the year, cadets participate in various ceremonial activities such as:
Commanding Officer’s Parades
Remembrance Day Services
Annual Ceremonial Review (ACR)
Change of Command Parades (every 3 years)
Cadets with a strong interest in Drill & Ceremonial (D&C) can apply for specialized summer courses that focus on leadership, precision, and instruction.
Available Courses:
Introduction to Drill & Ceremonial Course (2 Weeks)
Drill & Ceremonial Instructor Course (4 Weeks)
These courses are held at Cadet Training Centre's (CTCs) and help cadets grow in confidence, teamwork, and leadership.
